CITU, AITUC slam NFPE, AIPEU de-recognition as ‘vindictive order’

Saturday, 29 April 2023 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

The Left trade unions CITU and AITUC on Friday condemned the de-recognition of two trade unions – NFPE and AIPEU in postal department for giving funds to farmers’ strike and donations to CPI(M).  CITU and  AITUC general secretaries Tapan Sen and Amarjit Kaur urged the Government to withdraw the ‘vindictive order’ of de-recognition.

“Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) strongly condemns the high-handed vindictive anti-trade union action resorted to by the Postal Department at the instance of ruling RSS-BJP dispensations to withdraw the recognition. It is nothing but the patently of draconian actions of the Government to silence the opposition of workers and employees to its destructive and anti-worker policies,” said Tapan Sen in a statement.

“During the historic Kisan struggle, the Confederation gave a call collecting solidarity fund for the struggling farmers. NFPE and P-III unions collected some fund and remitted to their Confederation which, in turn, gave to the farmers. The anti- farmer RSS affiliate has had made-out a case even on such solidarity action as a political donation, “ said Sen, adding that this is a politically motivated and vindictive action by Modi Government.

AITUC general secretary Kaur said that the postal unions have a long history of struggles against British regime and the reasons given by the Modi Government for de-recognition is totally unjust and vindictive. “It is nothing new in India that trade unions extends support, solidarity and financial helpto the struggling sister unions and workers of different sector. There is illegality of misconduct in this internationally accepted solidarity actions,” said Kaur.
