FBI Director Wray says that a lab leak in Wuhan ‘most likely’ caused Covid but liberals question this

US Government departments’ recent comments on the origin of the novel coronavirus, which caused the Covid-19 pandemic, have once again brought the subject in the limelight. Talking to Fox News, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray said that a lab leak in Wuhan, China, was “most likely” the cause of the pandemic. “The FBI has for quite some time now assessed that the origins of the pandemic are most likely a potential lab incident,” he said. Days before Wray’s comments, a similar view of the US Energy Department was reported in the media. Three years ago, the FBI Director would have been accused of being… well, a ‘racist.’ That is how the liberal establishment in the US—which is fast getting infected with the doctrinal pathogens generated by postmodern or New Left academics—maligns anyone they hate. Just as the pinkish editorialists in our country denounced their intellectual opponents as ‘communal’ in the 1990s and earlier. When US former President Donald Trump and others used such terms as the “China virus” or “Wuhan virus” for coronavirus, they all were accused of racism, xenophobhia, Liberals suspected “a broader attempt to drive xenophobic sentiment toward China. Trump specifically was accused of “weaponizing bigotry and stereotypes,” of racist tropes, of everything that is wrong in America or the world. But Trump was correct — and accurate: “It’s not racist at all... It comes from China, that’s why. I want to be accurate…”

Of course, China didn’t expect its role in spreading the deadly disease to all parts of the world. Its Foreign Ministry spokesman warned the US that it should “take care of its own business” before stigmatising China. In fact, Beijing condemned anyone who highlighted its unconscionable actions. It charged Peru’s Nobel literature laureate Mario Vargas Llosa with airing “irresponsible and prejudiced opinions” over the origins of the coronavirus. Left-liberals’ solicitude for the Chinese assumed alarming proportions. They essentially peddled Beijing’s lies, which pivot around the natural origin of the virus. This was despite the fact even at that time China’s nefarious role in the spread of the virus was quite evident. Nature, a leading science magazine, reported on March 17, 2020, “Epidemiologists say China’s mammoth response had one glaring flaw: it started too late. In the initial weeks of the outbreak in December and January, Wuhan authorities were slow to report cases of the mysterious infection, which delayed measures to contain it.” Just as three years ago, China dismissed all criticism, it is still reacting in a similar fashion. Typically, China has accused the US of “political manipulation.” Wray rightly said in his interview that China “has been doing its best to try to thwart and obfuscate” efforts to identify the source of the pandemic. And, typically, some Left-liberal media houses are trying to raise questions about the lab leak theory. A typical scenario.
