As a CSR initiative, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has signed an MoU with Hardayal Municipal Heritage Public Library, Delhi (HMHPL) on January 20 to help upgrade the existing infrastructure of the library by supply of furniture, equipment, books and more. More so, in order to enhance
e-awareness, promote exchange of ideas & information, and inculcate reading habits amongst youth, this project especially includes creation of a digital section
(POWERGRID GYAN KENDRA) to provide facilities for e-learning through sufficient computers in a networked system. Estimated project cost is Rs 94.60 lakh to be executed through POWERGRID Northern Region-I.
Hardayal Municipal Heritage Public Library (HMHPL), situated in the heart of Chandni Chowk, is the oldest public library of Delhi, which is free for public usage and no charges are levied on public using the reading section. The library has a unique collection of more than 1,70,000 books in Hindi, English, Urdu, Arabic, Persian and Sanskrit. It is one of the very few libraries in the world with a collection of at least 8,000 rare books. The oldest book in the library is block-printed.
The agreement was signed by Shri Vinayak Chauhan, senior general manager (CSR), POWERGRID and Smt Poonam Parashar Jha, secretary, HMHPL. Shri U C Trivedi, chief manager from POWERGRID along with other senior officials were present at the event.
