Police on Friday arrested four persons for brutally beating to death a married woman on suspicion of practising witchcraft.
The arrested persons were identified as Kalindi Hansada, Chinu Majhi, Padmalava Hansada and Palu Majhi of village Padiabashi under the Tamaka police station in the district.
The accused allegedly thrashed 38-year-old Suru Majhi to death with wooden planks in the village on April 4 night.
”We are looking for their other associates. They have been identified and will be arrested soon. The arrested persons have confessed that they committed the crime as the victim was practising black magic,” said Tamaka PS IIC Sukant Patra.
A blood-stained wooden plank was seized from the house of one of the accused, police said.
The accused and other villagers suspected that the victim was practising witchcraft in the village and it resulted in the death of three kids recently.
