A science literature festival was held on the fifth day of the week-long science and technology festival, Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate at the Regional Science Centre, UCOST on Saturday. Welcoming the gathering, UCOST joint director DP Uniyal motivated the students and talked about science popularisation and the importance of science and literature. SPECS secretary Brij Mohan Sharma, Bishen Singh Mahendra Pal Singh owner Abhimanyu Gahlot and radio jockey Kavya were also present in the session. Gahlot spoke about the status and scope of publication in India in the field of science and technology. He also talked about the role of technology in scientific writing. Sharma shared his experiences with the students and emphasised on using science to improve the quality of life. He also informed the gathering about adulteration in various items like milk, salt, pulses and sanitiser while also telling how to check adulteration with basic scientific methods at home. Kavya told students about the importance of communication and motivated them to polish their skills. The session was followed by a science-based skit presented by RSC and UCOST staff. Other activities like Rangoli making competition were also conducted. Students from various institutes participated in the competition. A demonstration activity was performed by the SPECS team to show how to make organic colours from vegetables, flowers and fruits. They discussed the side effects of using common synthetic colours sold in the market. Officials, scientists, faculty members, researchers, students, UCOST, RSC and UCB staff also participated in the programme through hybrid mode.
