Three members of a family, including a toddler, were killed and six others were injured when a car overturned after hitting another vehicle on Agra-Lucknow Expressway, according to police.
The ill-fated car met with the accident near Nasirpur village in Bangarmau area on Wednesday night.
The car, which was going to Gonda from Rajasthan, jumped to the other lane and overturned before being hit by another car, Additional Superintendent of Police Shashi Shekhar Singh said on Thursday. He said three people were killed and six others were injured in the mishap.
Reports said that Ram Milan (70), a resident of Jalore in Sumerpur town of Pali district of Rajasthan, was going to Gonda with his family by two cars. The driver of the car moving ahead on the expressway lost control over the wheel and the vehicle crashed into the road divider. The second car coming behind collided with it and overturned, leaving six-month-old Khyati, daughter of Ram Milan’s son Kamlesh of Pali, and Ramkumar's (also son of Ram Milan) daughter Chintan (18) and son Pavani (23) dead on the spot.
Six people in both the cars were seriously injured. They included Ram Milan, his 60-year-old wife Shanti Devi, 38-year-old son Mukesh, Kusum (34) wife of Mukesh, Lakshmi (4) daughter of Mukesh, Geeta (38) wife of Kamlesh. All the injured were referred to the district hospital for the community health centre where they were shifted after the accident.
The driver of the second car, Hardeep Singh of BP Tohra under Badso police station of Patiala district in Punjab, narrowly escaped.
In another incident reported from Saharanpur, a four-year-old girl drowned in a pond while playing, police said on Thursday.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suraj Rai said a girl from Ambehta area went missing on Wednesday evening. The girl’s family, local residents and some divers arranged by the administration searched for her in the pond and succeeded in recovering her body around 10 am on Thursday after a night-long search operation. The incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed nearby, the police said.
