Scribes ‘misbehaved’ by Haryana cops

Monday, 24 January 2022 | PNS | BALESWAR

A three-member team of the Haryana police had a faceoff with local journalists at the Khantapada police station premises in Baleswar district on Sunday.

The cops had come to nab a culprit, who has committed a financial fraud of about Rs 80 lakh in a private company where he was engaged as an accountant.

The team while couldn’t trace the main accused Lipu Rout of village Satthi under  the Khantapada police station picked up a minor and two others of his family to the police station alleging financial transactions through bank accounts between the prime accused and the minor.

The scribes, who had come to the police stations to cover the incident, were prevented by the Haryana cops from doing so. This triggered heated arguments and a scuffle.

One reporter alleged that a Haryana cop warned them of dire consequences by brandishing his service revolver. Some villagers, who were also present, protested the behaviour of the Haryana cops and the silence of Khantapara police.

However, SDPO Padarbinda Das rushed to the spot and diffused the volatile situation by holding discussions with the police, scribes and villagers.

The three persons of the family who were brought to the police station were released as per the provisions of CrPC.
