A Hindi play ‘Azad’ depicting the lifespan of Chandra Shekhar Azad was staged at Shaheed Bhavan auditorium here on Sunday. The play was performed to mark the birth anniversary of Chandra Shekhar Azad.
Directed by Shobha Chhatterjee, the play was organized by Directorate of Swaraj Sansthan. It was prominently organized to pay tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of the great revolutionary in the freedom struggle.
Shobha Chatterjee, director of the drama said that Amar Shaheed Chandra Shekhar Azad is a symbol of the valor and sacrifice of the country in the heroes of the Indian independence struggle. They not only inspired themselves to live and die for this country, but also had the ability to fill this inspiration in others.
He was such a vision of the strong movement on the path of revolution that many times challenged death by smiling. Some similar phenomena are depicted in free play through small scenes.
The play depicted his entire life, from his childhood till his days in freedom struggle. It is said that even the British rule was friegtened with the activities by Azad. He was known as ‘Behrupiya’ as he often changed his real identity to become somebody else and fight the British Raj.
In a shootout, Azad shot himself to death. He was left with only one bullet and instead of getting shot by any British, he thought to shot himself.
The play is written by renowned playwright of the city Alok Chatterjee and Shyam Sunder Tripathi.
