The people of Gomoh Junction that now is known as Neta ji Subhash Chandra Bose Junction recalled the ' great escape ' day at midnight of January 17/18 by honouring the driver and guard of Howrah Kalka express as the train arrived at Gomoh Junction.
On this day in 1941 Netaji had boarded the aforementioned train to Prehawar and was last seen on Indian soil here.
The Gomoh chamber of commerce presented pleasantries to the Guard and drove to commemorate this day ..They also pasted posters on different coaches of Netaji as mark of respect to the great leader. .
Talking to media Dhiraj Kumar president of the chamber said that their organisation honours the train staff every year on this day. It's our tribute to Netaji who fought for the country's independence.
Netaji had reached Gomoh from Kolkata in disguise with one his relatives and had boarded this train that then used to travel up to Peshawar .
West Bengal chief minister Mamta Banerjee during her stint as rail minister had ordered for putting up a portrait of Netaji on the platform and has named this station after him.
