With an aim to treat wet waste, the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) inaugurated a Bio Gas plant in Shastri Park on Wednesday. This plant has a capacity to treat 5,000 kg of waste per day in the national Capital.
The Mayor of the EDMC, Shyam Sundar Aggarwal said: "This plant is definitely environment friendly as bio gas supplies energy for cooking and lighting. It also makes high quality fertilisers as well."
Talking about the initiative, the Chairman of the EDMC Standing Committee, Beer Singh Panwar stated that this plant has been set in the direction of implementing Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and Bye-laws 2018.
"The corporations will scientifically dispose of 5,000 kg wet litter and 500 kilowatt of electricity will be generated. Besides, 750 kg organic manure will be made every day," Panwar said. A cost of Rs 159.50 lakh has been incurred in constructing this plant. A senior EDMC official said that the electricity produced by this plant will be provided to the BSES.
