Dehradun will organise National Lok Adalat on March 12 as per the directions of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA). The authorities are also ready to set up camps in courts on February 28 and March 4 to raise awareness among locals about the compoundable cases under Motor Vehicles (MV) Act which can be settled in Lok Adalat too. The DLSA secretary and civil judge Neha Kushwaha informed that Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on March 12 in all courts across the district but many are not aware that compoundable cases under the MV act can also be settled in Lok Adalat through amicable settlements besides the cases related to land acquisitions, banks and debt recovery, family disputes and matrimonial cases. It helps people to settle the cases in a much shorter time and since the cases are settled mutually between the parties, the decision taken here cannot be challenged afterwards, said Kushwaha. She said that it gives a sense of security to both parties in such cases that usually take much longer to settle and the amount of penalties imposed under the MV act also decreases considerably through compounding in Lok Adalat. She stated that representatives from the regional transport office (RTO) and the police officials will also be present at camps from 10 am to 4 pm on February 28 and March 4 to raise awareness among the public for the compoundable cases. She said that besides the courts, the camps will also be conducted in all RTO and ARTO offices in the district and in the offices of circle officers (CO) of Doiwala, Mussoorie, Nehru Colony, Dalanwala, Rishikesh, Vikasnagar among others.
She appealed to the public to visit the camps for thorough information about their cases and register for their disposal through Lok Adalat next month.
