CPI(M) protests hike in fuel prices, unemployment

Sunday, 03 April 2022 | PNS | Lucknow

The Communist Party of India (Marxists) staged demonstrations across the state in protest against the hike in fuel prices and unemployment and demanded that the Central government roll back the price hike.

The protesters handed over a memorandum addressed to the President of India to the district magistrate.

Giving this information to news persons, CPI(M) state secretary Heera Lal Yadav said the economy of the country was in tatters and unemployment was at its highest percentage during the last 45 years.

“The fuel prices are all time high these days and about 80 per cent of the people who solely depend on daily wages are the worst hit. Their lives have been shattered,” he said.

Yadav said in 2014, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders were very vocal on inflation when the price of petrol was Rs 55 per litre, of diesel Rs 45 and of cooking gas Rs 450 per cylinder and used to take to the streets. “Now the prices of fuel and cooking gas are touching sky but the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh are keeping silent. The Narendra Modi-led government is realising over 69 per cent tax on fuel while the price of crude oil in the international market has come down by 29 per cent,” he said.

Yadav said the BJP government was more concerned about the interests of capitalists than the interests of the common man.
