Journalist-turned-politician Rajeev Shukla and former MP from Bihar Ranjeet Ranjan will Tuesday filed nomination on Congress candidates for the Rajya Sabha from Chhattisgarh, it was announced on Monday.
The last date for filing of the nomination papers is May 31.
According to the Election Commission, the scrutiny of the nominations will take place on June 1. The last date for withdrawal of names is June 3. Voting will be held on June 10 and the counting of votes will happen after polling gets over at 5 pm.
Both Shukla and Ranjan have reached Raipur, party sources said. Both will participate in a meeting late night with AICC General Secretary and Chhattisgarh in-charge P.L. Punia here.
On Tuesday, both candidates will complete all the formalities in the Assembly premises.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not file any candidate as it lacks the numbers to win the election. Accordingly, both the Congress candidates are likely to win unopposed.
Of the 90 members in the Chhattisgarh assembly, 71 are from the Congress, 14 from the BJP, 3 from the Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) and two are members of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Chhattisgarh has five Rajya Sabha seats. The tenure of two Rajya Sabha members, Ramvichar Netam (BJP) and Chhaya Verma (Congress), ends on June 29.
