The East Central Railways (ECR) has diverted over a dozen passenger trains following the derailment of 53 wagons of a coal laden goods train near Gurpa station between Koderma and Manpur stations under Dhanbad Railway division that took place around 6.24 AM on Wednesday.
This incident disrupted movement of trains on Howrah-Delhi grand chord route as several poles were uprooted and derailed wagons blocked both up and down tracks.
The rail authorities have also decided short termination of some passenger trains plying on the section due to the incident.
According to a press statement issued by the ECR, train services on the up and down line of the Dhanbad-Delhi section were disrupted. However there were no casualties. Accident relief vans from Dhanbad, Gomoh, Gaya and Barwadih were rushed to the spot and a team of experts from ECR headquarters as well as from Dhanbad divisional headquarters reaches on the spot to ensure speedy repair works and get the tracks cleared as soon as possible for movement of trains, told ECR CPRO Birendra Kumar. Though he ruled out possibilities of any sabotage’, it's claimed that the accident took place due to brake failure of the engine while it was on Ghat section.
Meanwhile, the railways have decided to divert 12381 Howrah-Delhi express, 13151 Kolkata-Jammu Tawi express, 12319 Kolkata-Agra Cant express trains via Asansol-Jhajha route. Besides, trains like 12260 Bikaner-Sealdah express, 12988 Ajmer-Sealdah express, 12382-New Delhi- Howrah express, 13152 Jammu Tawi- Kolkata express wouls move towards onwards journey through Gaya-Kiul-Jhajha route.
The services of 13305 Dhanbad – Dehri-on Sone would terminate at Gomoh, 13553 Asansol-Varanasi express would terminate at Dhanbad, 13546 Gaya-Asansol express would terminate at Tankuppa stations. 13545 Asansol-Gaya train has been cancelled for the day. Howrah- New Delhi rajdhani express has been diverted via Asansol Kiul - Gaya for today.
In another development passengers had a verbal duel with railway staff at Dhanbad station as railways announced cancellation of trains.
