After the Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena ordered a probe into the power subsidy scam, the State BJP unit on Thursday took a jibe at the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and said that his role in the ‘scam’ should also be investigated.
Addressing the media, the Leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that the active role of Kejriwal in the power subsidy scam in the Capital should be probed as his relations with the power companies have been suspicious since the beginning.
“Due to these relations, Kejriwal managed the appointments of his close aides as the director of power companies and paved the way for the benefits of thousands of crores,” Bidhuri said.
Bidhuri said that the connections of scam in electricity subsidy are directly linked to Kejriwal. Since the L-G has ordered an inquiry into the subsidy scam and the report is to be submitted by the Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar in seven days, this matter must be investigated from all angles. “Kejriwal gave all kinds of exemptions to these power companies so that his close aides Jasmin Shah and Rajya Sabha member ND Gupta's son Naveen Gupta can be appointed a director in private companies,” he claimed.
Bidhuri also alleged that when ND Gupta was given a Rajya Sabha ticket, Kejriwal's aides alleged that he was given the ticket by taking crores of rupees. It is obvious that even in making his son a director in the company, there was also something wrong.
“Before the 2013 elections, Kejriwal had openly promised the public that the rates would be brought down by stopping the theft of power companies in Delhi. Describing the electricity meters as fast, he used to say that these meters would be fixed, and the power companies would be forced to reduce the rates,” he said.
The role of Kejriwal is questionable because he did not utter a word against the power companies as soon as he won the election.
Instead of reducing the electricity rates by stopping the theft of power companies, he announced giving subsidies from the tax collected from the income of the people, he said.
“So far more than Rs 30,000 crore subsidies have been given. Apart from it, Kejriwal had also promised that the power companies would be audited, but due to the lax attitude of the Delhi government, the High Court ordered that the companies could not be audited by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). The Delhi government never took a strong stand to present its stand in this matter,” Bidhuri added.
