The 1997-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, M Geetha, passed away on Saturday evening in New Delhi.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel paid homage to her.
He tweeted: “Sad news has been received of the death of Dr. M. Geetha, a senior officer of the IAS (1997 batch).”
Geetha made her valuable contribution in the implementation of the Godhan Nyay Yojana, he said.
The Secretary with the Chhattisgarh government battled for life for over two and a half months before breathing her last at around 7.30 pm on Saturday.
After being made a Joint Secretary in the Centre, she was posted in the national capital where she suffered a brain stroke. After her hospitalization, her condition deteriorated and she was put on life support system.
A Doctorate in Anthropology, cultural studies, critical theory and analysis from the University of Hyderabad, Geetha did her MBA from Harvard University.
She served for 16 years in Madhya Pradesh and five years in Chhattisgarh. She had headed the Public Health, Sanitation, Public Health Engineering, Land Registration and Women and Child Development in the state.
