The Chhattisgarh government has urged the Railways to take back the order discontinuing local trains passing through the state and demanded that the services should be continued.
The Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, Subrat Sahoo, made the demand in a letter to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had already objected to the discontinuation of the passenger trains.
The Railway Board on Friday told the South East Central Railway (SECR) (Bilaspur zone) to stop operating 23 express and local trains passing through Chhattisgarh from April 24, 2022.
Sahoo's letter said that the SECR had earlier halted the operation of 10 trains travelling through the state for a month.
He pointed out that many middle and lower class passengers travel daily by the halted trains.
The cancellation would inconvenience small businessmen, daily commuters, employees associated with government and semi-government service as well as school and college students, the official said.
