Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and his predecessor and BJP leader Raman Singh were on Wednesday locked in a war of words over the Enforcement Directorate’s raids in the state.
Singh had alleged a nexus between the coal mafia and the Chhattisgarh government and accused Baghel of acting as an ATM for Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Countering, Baghel asked the BJP leader to apologize for his comments or face a defamation suit.
The Chief Minister accused the ED of raiding Chhattisgarh officials and businessmen at the behest of the BJP government at the Centre.
“The central agency is politically inclined and has conducted raids in states governed by opposition parties,” he said.
He also objected to the agency not disclosing the alleged disproportionate assets it had uncovered.
Last time too when they conducted searches in Chhattisgarh, the ED disclosed details after returning to New Delhi and "after conspiring with the BJP", he said.
Singh accused Baghel of shielding corrupt officials.
“If you can’t prove that the central agency is working on the instructions of the BJP government in the Centre, then I will file a defamation case against you,” he told Baghel.
