Ten lesser known women from the mountainous regions of the State have been chosen for their exemplary courage as recipients of the Ma Nanda Devi Veerta Samman for this year. The names of these women were announced by Vidhan Sabha speaker and head of the award selection committee Ritu Khanduri on Sunday. The awards will be presented in a function to be held on November 1 in the Vidhan Sabha premises. Addressing the media, she said that 10 women from different remote mountainous regions of the State have been selected for the award this year for their courage and contribution to society. Those selected for the award include flying officer Nidhi Bisht from Pauri, Anita Tamta from Bageshwar, Kalawati Badal from Dharchula, Tara Joshi from Champawat, Tara Takuli and Tara Pangti from Kapkot, Geeta Devi Pangti from Pithoragarh, Asha Devi from Bageshwar, Nivedita Panwar from Chamba and Seeta Devi Burfal from Pithoragarh.
