Members of the Khurdha-Bolangir Railpath Sangarsha Samiti led by Gopalji Panigrahi and supported by various organisations of Balangir town including the Bolangir Bar Association, on Friday staged a dharna before the district Collectorate here demanding early completion of the Khurdha-Bolangir railway line.
"The construction of the Khurdha-Bolangir railway line is moving at a snail’s pace. To expedite it and demanding its early completion, people are staging a dharna. A memorandum was submitted to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik demanding early completion of this crucial railway line," said Bolangir Bar Association president Amarish Tripathy.
Even though the railway line was surveyed in the pre-Independence period and approved in 1995, yet even after 25 years it has not been completed.
Protesting against the apathy of Government, people of not only Balangir staged agitation, in Subarnapur and Boudh districts too people held dharna demanding early completion of this railway line. Unless the railway line is completely soon in a time-bound manner, people would intensify their agitation further," said president of Khurdha-Bolangir Railpath Sangarsha Samiti Gopalji Panigrahi.
Among others, advocate Bhavani Satpathy and president of Bolangir District Chemist and Druggist Association Lotus Sarangi spoke at the Balangir rally in support of the demanded for early completion of the railway line.
