The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested an absconding killer from Mumbai in pharmacist Umesh Kohle killing case of Amravati.
This is the 11th arrest made by the NIA in the Amravati killing case.
The NIA arrested accused Shaim Ahmed alias Shahim of Al Karim Nagar No.1, near Sharifa Masjid, Amarawati in the case related to the killing of Umesh Pralhadrao Kolhe. He was arrested for his active role in the conspiracy, the NIA said in a statement.
The NIA had declared a cash reward of Rs 2 lakh for any information leading to his arrest.
Ahmed is also known by other aliases like Shaheem, Sahim Mathe, Monu and Mathe.
The case was initially registered as FIR No. 306/2022 dated June 22 at Police Station City Kotwali, Amravati, Maharashtra and re-registered by NIA on July 2.Earlier, 10 accused persons have been arrested in the case from June 23 to 25, July 2, and August 2 and 11. Further investigations in the case are in progress, the agency added.
Pharmacist Kolhe was killed on June 21 for allegedly backing now suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma who is roiled in a controversy relating to the Prophet row.
Earlier, the agency seized digital devices (mobile phones, SIM cards, memory cards, DVRs), pamphlets spreading hate messages, knives and other incriminating documents and materials from the premises of the arrested accused.
