Delhi Development Authority conducted an online webinar on the Master Plan Delhi (MPD)-2041 with the citizens of Delhi on July 6. The purpose of the webinar was to facilitate the general public to understand the plan, provisions and various policies that have been made part of the draft for MPD 2041, placed in the public domain on June 9, inviting public suggestions and objections. This was the second online webinar in a series of four webinars scheduled to be held from July 1-20. In this webinar, issues related to Chapters 7 to 12 comprising shelter, social infrastructure and transport & mobility were presented. A total of 190 participants, including the general public, senior officers of DDA and the National Institute for Urban Affairs (NIUA), attended the Webinar and the comments/suggestions provided by participants were noted by the Delhi Development Authority.
Senior Officer from DDA addressed the participants and introduced the main objectives of the webinar, followed by a presentation by NIUA explaining the various plans and policies of the draft Master Plan-2041 related to shelter, social infrastructure and transport & mobility. Some valuable suggestions provided during the webinar were: MPD 2041 to be GIS based plan, last mile connectivity to be focussed on by promoting more intermediate public transport (IPT) modes, mention of homeless population in terms of their entitlements, facilities mandated for night shelters should be detailed out, woman work force participation to be reflected in provisions for housing (rental/ affordable housing policy), measures for decarbonisation to be provided in the mobility sector for MPD, requirement of alternate roads to bring down the traffic load on the main arterial roads, housing backlog need to be addressed, need for specific guidelines for urban peripheral rural area, approach of mixed use development zones to be adopted on the lines to the TOD corridors, healthcare infrastructure to address the extreme pandemic situation, commercial use to be allowed in LDRA, land requirements for additional housing need to be mentioned, development of rental housing, interlinkage of MPD 2041 with sub regional plan for NCR, vertical mixed use needs to allowed everywhere in order to promote, urban extension road (UER) with metro or BRT services needs to be provided, zero setback is preferable as it enables safe streets for women and children, plot sizes for redevelopment should be kept at minimum, circle rates need to be rationalised based on incentive basis, road network needs to be part of redevelopment.
The next webinar will be organised on July 13 (Tuesday) from 3 PM to 4:30 PM and the discussion will cover chapters 13 to 18 which detail the physical infrastructure (chapters 13-16) and spatial development framework (chapters 17, 18) of the draft for MPD-2041.
