A case of alleged embezzlement of about Rs 2.21 crore of government funds has come to light in Tehri district treasury. According to the complaint filed by assistant treasurer, two cashiers working in the district treasury have embezzled an amount of Rs 2.21 crore. Police have started investigating the case.
According to the police, Jayprakash Shah and Yashpal Singh Negi, who are working as cashiers in the district treasury, have been missing since December 25. Police said the family had registered missing persons’ complaint on December 27.
There were also apprehensions of misappropriation in the treasury since the two employees who were working as cashiers in the district treasury, had been missing for five days. The assistant treasurer lodged a case against the two cashiers late on the night of December 29.
Tehri senior superintendent of police Navneet Singh Bhullar said that a case has been registered against cashiers Jai Prakash Shah and Yashpal Singh Negi under IPC section 409 based on the complaint filed by the assistant treasurer in New Tehri Kotwali. He further said that a district level special investigation team will probe into the case. Further, the car of one of the cashiers was found near AIIMS in Rishikesh on Wednesday night. Investigations are underway.
