Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared public holidays on the occasion of Chhath Puja (November 10) and Kartik Purnima on November 19, respectively.
Citing the example of ‘Panchkosi’ and ‘Chaudah Kosi Parikrama’, scheduled to start in Ayodhya on November 14, Yogi said that a large number of devotees participate in fairs of Kartik month, including Chhath Mahaparv. He said officials were subsequently directed to make systematic arrangements for cleanliness, lighting, parking, security, etc at the river ghats where devotees gather and also set up night shelters given the drop in temperature.
Chhath Mahaparv dedicated to the Sun God is celebrated widely across North India, especially in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Lakhs of devotees gather at the river ghats early in the morning as soon as the sun rises to pay `arghya’ to the Sun God in knee-deep water. Hence, several state governments have declared a public holiday on account of Chhath on Wednesday (November 10).
