A family of village Panisandha under Bhograi block of Baleswar district has kicked off a controversy after they claimed that the deceased Prayagraj Bagambari mutt head Narendra Giri belonged to their family.
They, besides making the claim, have also demanded a high-level probe into the mystery of death of Giri to unfold the truth and to take stern measures against the culprits.
Laxmikanta Giri and Purna Chandra Giri, who reside in their native village Panisandha, say that they were six siblings, three brothers and three sisters, born out of the wedlock of Sanatana Giri and Ramamani Giri, who both have passed away. Some fellow villagers too underscore the claim of the Giri family. The brother duo further claims that about 52 years ago, Bagambari mutt head Narendra Giri, the eldest among all siblings, had left house for unknown reasons; and since then, there was no trace of him.
However, about 10 years ago, he had returned to the house and stayed for about two weeks stating that he would become an abbot and won’t return any more to the village after assuming the charge of the mutt. During his stay, he had attended several functions of the family and in the village, claim two brothers. However, neither both brothers nor anyone else in village are able to show any documents in support of their claims.
