Mohali district on Thursday scripted history by administering the first dose of COVID-19 Vaccination to 26,000 people over and above its total adult population.

“Mohali has created a record of sorts and is the first district in the State to administer vaccination to the people over and above its population,” said Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu, while felicitating the doctors, nurses, paramedics, and the officials who made the feat possible.

“Congratulations to all the people who made this campaign a success," said the Minister, adding, “We are perhaps the second city in the country after Indore to have this rare feather in our cap.”

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said: “We are proud to have administered vaccination to a sizeable number of eligible population of our district and to those belonging to tricity. Aiming for a successful fight against COVID, we tried covering every eligible person who approached our vaccination centres.”

Dayalan maintained that we will administer the second dose of vaccination also with the same zeal to promote herd immunity.

A Government spokesperson said that the total adult population of SAS Nagar is 7,46,119 as per population growth estimates added by the Department of Health to the Census 2011 data. The district crossed  the vaccination of the same number of people on Tuesday; and by September 2, it had successfully administered vaccination (first dose) to 7,73,442 people, taking the achievement to 103.66 percent, said the spokesperson.

Spokesperson said that this vaccination data includes that uploaded on CoWin and COVA App.

“Department of Governance Reforms is in the process of migrating the data and once the migration of data from COVA app to CoWin is completed, the stats will be visible to anyone accessing CoWin,” added the spokesperson.
