Harak’s incompetent remark puts U’khand BJP in a fix

Thursday, 30 September 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

Known for kicking up controversies and shooting from the hip, senior Cabinet Minister Harak Singh Rawat is in news again for his utterances. In a clip that has gone viral Harak is heard saying that the souls of martyrs are crying as the government is in hands of incompetent (Nalayak) people.

Rawat is said to have made this statement in a programme held in Mussoorie on Tuesday. As expected the statement has created an uncomfortable situation for the ruling BJP in Uttarakhand. When asked to comment on it by the media persons,

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami tried to brush aside the issue by stating that Harak Singh Rawat should know what he said and in what context he said it.

Though the CM was evasive, the national general secretary and the state in charge of BJP Dushyant Gautam seemed sterner in his approach. He accepted the statement that the minister comes under indiscipline but added that Harak would be reprimanded like a loving child is chided.

When asked by the media persons for his view on the issue the president of the state unit of the BJP Madan Kaushik said that he has talked with the minister and he said that the issue is not being seen in the complete context.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Pratima Singh has said that the statement of Harak Singh Rawat has exposed the real face of the BJP government and Rawat has said what the Uttarakhand Congress has been saying for the last four years. She said the BJP cannot just shrug away from the comment of Harak Singh Rawat.

It is pertinent to mention that Harak Singh Rawat was the chief architect of the famous mutiny against the then chief minister Harish Rawat in March 2016 when he along with eight other MLA revolted against the Congress government and defected to the BJP.

Harak is known to hop parties as he has been with Congress, BJP and BSP in his political career. Since the crucial assembly elections in the state are not very far his utterances and moves are being closely watched by the political observers in Uttarakhand.
