Cases of special nature related to women and child crimes, theft, burglary and missing complaints of minors can now be registered without going to the police station. FIRs related to such cases can be registered through citizen portal or mobile app. For this, except Ramgarh and Khunti, e-FIR police stations are going to be opened in all the remaining 22 districts.
The process for setting up e-FIR police stations is at its final stage. As per Government’s proposal the e-FIR police stations will function in the already functioning Composite Control Room in every district. Only officers in the rank of DSPs or Inspectors will be given the additional command of in-charge of e-FIR police station.
In August last year, Chief Minister Hemant Soren gave his assent to the proposal of setting up e-FIR Police Stations in 22 districts of the State. The basis of creation of e-FIR police stations is to provide the facility of registering FIRs by common citizens through the portal/mobile App without going to the police station. This note will be kept for the approval of the Council of Ministers.
With the implementation of e-FIR, the common man can register FIRs online related to stolen vehicles, various types of property theft, burglary, crimes related to women and minors, disappearance of minors in which the accused is unknown. A senior police officer at City Control room requesting anonymity said, “The facility of e-FIR will save valuable time and resources of both citizens and police. The e-FIRs police station is a step in the direction of making Ranchi police digitally.”
Meanwhile, as per the functioning of e-FIR police stations, the investigative team from police stations will assist the e-FIR police station in carrying out investigations. Moreover, according to the seriousness of the incident, the DSP or Inspector of the local police station area in which the incident will be related will supervise it.
Out of the force available for the Composite Control Room, two computer savvy policemen will cooperate in the work of the e-FIR police station. The SSP or SP will be the controlling officer of the e-FIR police station. The proposal also states that e-FIR is an option and not an obligation. People can also register a case by going to the police station.
The person who wants to file the e-FIR will have to login to the Samadhan portal and submit his application through e-sign or digital signature. Only then will the FIR be accepted. To register an FIR under the Code of Criminal Procedure, it is necessary to have a verified name and address of the applicant.
