A meeting of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) was held in the Collector's office here on Friday with Collector Parul Patawari chairing it.
The Collector said the State Government has launched extensive schemes to provide adequate safety for stray and destitute animals.
Financial assistance is provided to eligible organisations towards capital infrastructure support for establishing Goshala, cattle shelters, homes for stray and abandoned and destitute animals, healthcare facilities, operation theatres, medicines and vehicles for transportation of animals.
The animal birth control programme and animal helpline would be strengthened in Jagatsinghpur district.
However, she said that a database would be prepared by counting the numbers of stray, destitute and sick animals. The schemes would be implemented under the supervision of the State Animal Welfare Board in close coordination with the district Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department, urban local bodies, SPCA, and NGOs involved in animal welfare activities.
Among others, CDVO Dr Birakishor Parida, ADM Satchidananda Sahoo, police personnel, Jagatsinghpur Municipality Executive Officer, members from the Goshalas functioning in the district and NGO activists viewed that these schemes would pave the way to ensure welfare of the stray and destitute animals.
