The Covid situation in the district near Chhatisgarh border is getting worse day by day including the Jharsuguda headquarters town.
After the onset of Covid-19 second wave in Jharsuguda district, the highest 84 persons were reported Corona positive on April 14 and the tally is on the rise ever since.
Now, the situation is getting very difficult to treat Covid patients in the available hospitals. While the ICUs are almost full, no ambulance is available to shift the patients outside, which has been a great concern for the administration.
The review of Corona situation of the last week reveals that on April 14, highest 84 patients were identified as against 55 on April 13, 10 on April 12, 43 on April 11, 42 on April 10, 52 on April 9,36 on April 8 and 23 on April 7.
Many outsiders are coming to the district by road, rail and air. The night curfew imposed has not become so helpful to check Corona transmission as rush of people is seen during day hours in shops and roads. Social distancing norms are not adhered to by the people moving here and there without covering faces by masks.
As it appears, people have lost their patience during last lockdown and shutdown periods. On the other hands, the district administration should take more stringent steps on the defaulters.
When asked, Covid hospitals in charge Dr Hrusikesh Nayak said that more doctors from Hitech Medical organisation have joined with some more to join shortly. When the conditions of the patients become serious, they are advised for outside hospitals. The shortage of ambulance with ventilator has further aggravated the situation, he informed.
ADM Pradip Kumar Sahoo said two ambulances were giving service at present. "Further, two more will be reaching the district within a day or two. 10 beds with ventilators are now operational in ICU and oxygen pipeline could not be installed in other 10 more ICU beds," he added.
