Forty-year-old Srikant Kar of Jajpur district, a technician of the Oil Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in Mumbai, has recently escaped from jaws of death by swimming  around 16 hours in the cyclone Tauktae- hit turbulent Arabian sea before he was rescued by the Indian Navy.

Srikant Kar of Sankarpur village under Bari block fought against all odds in the turbulent sea to save his life. “I will never forget the May 17 afternoon as I jumped along with other employees of the ONGC from the ship after the ship sank in the cyclone.  I clutched some broken pieces of wood of the ship drifting in the vast Arabian sea for more than 16 hours,” said Kar.

Narrating his harrowing experience further, he said, “I was floating on the sea when an Indian Navy ship spotted me in the sea on May 18 at 8 am and rescued me.” “I am quite happy that my husband returned to house safe on Friday. I am grateful to the Indian Navy for saving the life of my husband,” said Kar’s wide Sumitra.
