Brajrajnagar BJD MLA and former State Assembly Speaker Kishore Mohanty passed away on Thursday evening at a private hospital in Jharsuguda. He was 62.
He suffered a cardiac arrest earlier, following which he was admitted to the hospital.
Mohanty was Assembly Speaker from 2007 to 2009. He was the Government Chief Whip from 2004 to 2007. He was elected to the Assembly thrice.
He was the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) Chairman from 2014 to 2019.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief over Mohanty’s demise. He said Mohanty was a popular leader. He made significant contributions as a Minister and an MLA for the State’s development.
Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik also expressed deep condolence over Mohanty’s demise.
