It may sound bizarre that though Dhanbad has no designated red-light area in district administration has decided to identify sex workers for providing social security coverage to them as per the directive of State Government.
Dhanbad deputy development commissioner (DDC) Dashrath Chandra Das citing the directive of departmental secretary of department of Women and child welfare and social security department has issued a directive of the same here in a meeting .
Those who attended the meeting included district social welfare officer, district child welfare officer, besides other subordinate officers of different blocks and child protection groups. The DDC said ,identification of sex workers , those suffering from AIDS need to be provided support as per the directive of the departmental secretary. The officers have been asked to identify such persons so that those can be provided assistance through state sponsored programmes.
In addition ,the block level officers have also been asked to identify kids who have been orphaned due to Covid for adding them with social security schemes of the government .
