The Delhi Police have arrested a 24-year-old man and 11 women for allegedly running a fake call centre and cheating people on the pretext of offering them personal loans on low interest rate under ‘Pradhan Mantri Loan Yojna’ in Delhi’s Rohini area.
Police said that the mastermind of the scam has been identified as Deepak Saini, a resident of Nangloi area. Police have also recovered one laptop, 29 mobile phones, one tablet, order book receipts etc. from the possession of the accused.
According to Pranav Tayal, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Rohini district, on Saturday around 11:30 PM, police received specific inputs regarding a fake call center being operating near Vishram Chowk, Sector-6, Rohini.
“Acting on the specific inputs, the police team conducted a raid where a man and some women were found indulged in tele-calling. They were arrested. During enquiry, it was revealed that they were indulged in illegal activities of defrauding people on the pretext of offering personal loans at very low interest rates under ‘Pradhan Mantri Loan Yojana Scheme’,” said the DCP.
“The accused used to make calls to people to offer them loans on lucrative interest rates. However, they would ask them to pay a certain amount as processing fee to execute the offer,” said the DCP.
“Later, they would keep asking them to pay money on one pretext or another. They have cheated people across India,” said the DCP adding that the owner of the call center is yet to be arrested and sincere efforts are being made to nab him.
