The Congress on Sunday questioned Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as to how many years it would to take fulfil the dreams of late Chief Minister Biju Patnaik. In a statement, senior party leader Panchanan Kanungo said the Chief Minister has asked his Ministers to see that Bijubabu’s dreams are materialised. Those who knew Bijubabu, he desired that every child gets quality education and modern healthcare. Besides, he wanted pucca houses for each household and employment or making people self-reliant.
“But what has happened during the last 21 years is the Government has appointed guest teachers instead of recruiting regular teachers and the Government has permitted more liquor shops than earlier. Where is empowerment of women when liquor-related atrocities and crimes have increased manifold,” Kanungo asked. He further alleged that Odisha stands far behind in national health index.
While in national level, the doctor-patient ratio is 1:1,668, in Odisha it is 1:13,154. While Government takes all credit for disaster management, why it has not ensured cyclone and flood-proof houses in last 21 years even after seven cyclones, he asked.
