Zero tolerance towards lockdown violators

Tuesday, 31 March 2020 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

DGP Abhay on Monday warned of zero tolerance towards the COVID-19 lockdown violators. He said that while 90 per cent of the people are abiding by the lockdown guidelines, 10 per cent are flouting it, thereby putting the lives of the overwhelming majority in danger.

He instructed the police personnel to firmly enforce the lockdown but not to misbehave with people.

The DGP informed that nearly 1,600 cases have been registered during the lockdown period in the State till now. While 61 cases filed are related to violation of the quarantine protocol, a high of 1,500 cases pertained to lockdown violation. “Police have arrested 1,400 people for lockdown violation across the State,” he added.

While a total of 700 additional Sub-Inspectors have been deployed at the police station level, 162 platoons have been mobilised and a reinforcement of 1,000 vehicles made for smooth implementation of the lockdown,” said Abhay.
