An unemployed youth of Dhamtari attempted to immolate himself in front of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s official residence on Monday and was admitted to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in a critical condition.
Later on he was moved to a private hospital for advanced treatment. But he is out of danger, the hospital said.
“The person who suffered more than 40 percent burn injuries is responding to treatment,” said Subhra Singh Thakur, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Chhattisgarh's biggest.
The man, identified as Hardev Sinha (27), a resident of village Telisatti in Dhamtari, was later reportedly shifted to a private hospital.
According to a press release from the Chhattisgarh Directorate of Publicity, the man was out of danger and suffering from mental illness for two years.
“People should refrain from taking such extreme steps under a surge of emotion,” he said.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel wished speedy recovery of the youth and telephoned his wife and collected details what were the reasons for his decision to take extreme step.
