Chief Minister Heamant Soren on Friday instructed officials to speed up the road construction work in the State and also develop a monitoring system to keep an eye on the ongoing works. The CM was chairing the review meeting of the road construction department here on Friday.
“Perform timely completion of road construction schemes in the State. It is a priority of the State government to have good quality roads. Roads have an important role for development. The area, in which good roads are built, grows rapidly. Along with facilitating traffic, it opens the way for economic development. Get the roads constructed according to the needs of the area,” said the CM to officials.
The CM also instructed the department officials to maintain the roads better. He asked the department officials to prepare a mechanism for obtaining actual reports of all the roads whose work is in progress. Ensure that the functioning of the roads is monitored daily. Quality should not be compromised in the construction of roads, he said.
The CM told the departmental officials that it is often seen that the tenders of road and bridge built on it are different. Having different tenders creates constraints along with delays in construction. He said that the bridge is a part of the road, so prepare an action plan, in which the tenders of the road and the bridge are not separated. He also directed the department officials to expedite the works of the roads under construction. The CM ordered the installation of milestones on the roads so that people coming from other places can get the right direction of their destination.
Secretary of the Road Construction Department, Sunil Kumar made a presentation to the Chief Minister on the schemes related to road construction in the State. The Secretary apprised the CM of the progress of major road projects going on across the State. The CM was informed about the progress of the new road from Khunti district’s Aarki-Korba-Birbanki-Kochang-Bandgaon, Balumath-Udaipura, Naya Chowk to Rajarappa Road, Lalpania More of Bokaro district. The roads reviewed under the State Highway Authority of Jharkhand (SHAJ) were also reviewed in the meeting. The CM was also informed about the progress of the construction of the Sundipur-Pansa Road High Level Bridge being built in the Koyal River Garhwa and the Bridge on the Mayurakshi River.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh, Development Commissioner KK Khandelwal, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajiv Arun Ekka, Secretary of the Road Construction Department Sunil Kumar, Chief Engineer Murari Bhagat, Chief Engineer (Traffic) K K Lal , Chief Engineer (National Highway) NP Sharma and other officials of the department.
