Philatelists raise fund for lockdown distressed

Sunday, 03 May 2020 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The Eastern India Philatelic Association (EIPA) on Saturday held an online  charity auction of  stamps and postal materials as a fund raiser for helping the distressed during the lockdown.

Association members contributed the articles which were put on auction and the amount realised was kept in a fund to provide rations for daily wagers.

EIPA secretary Shanti Swarup Rath said philately is a gentlemen’s hobby. Anil Dhir said the proceeds from the auction far exceeded what was expected. Valuable postal materials, many relating to Odisha were put up for auction. A set of ten Pigeon Post Covers flown by the Orissa Pigeon Service were sold for over Rs 4,000. Many members also made online cash donations.

Philatelists from Balangir, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Brahmapur, Cuttack and other places participated in the auction.
