NHAI bid to close Ganjam road sparks row

Wednesday, 14 October 2020 | PNS | BRAHMAPUR

The attempt of the NHAI to close a road crossing NH-16 from Rambha NAC to several villages has sparked serious discontentment among the locals.

The RD road from the NAC leading to Purushottampur (block) PWD road via Khandadeuli touches several villages such as Jatiakhola, Phulajhara, Ambalijhara, and Palanga under Ganjam Block finally merges with Khandadeuli–Purushottampur Road.

Besides this, the road also connects to Khallikote-Bania-Chikili road near Nuapalli, Allapur and Badapalli.Notably, more than 3,000 farmers in the vicinity of the highway near Rambha use the road for their day to day cultivation work. During ongoing 6-lane expansion of NH-16, the NHAI should refrain from closing the square connecting Rambha NAC and the Panchayat RD road, demanded the locals, including the BJD leaders.Meanwhile, former Deputy Speaker of Assembly and advisor to OSMA Board Rama Chandra Panda visited the site on Sunday and discussed with the local farmers and leaders.
