Chandigarh Congress protests fuel price hike

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh unit of Congress on Monday held a protest against Narendra Modi led Central Government for increasing petrol and diesel prices despite the decreased crude oil prices in the international market.  Congress leaders and workers protested at Sector 17 plaza here resorted to sloganeering and sit-in protest. The protest that started at around 10 am lasted upto 12 noon. Former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, Chandigarh Congress chief Pardeep Chhabra and other senior leaders of Congress lashed out at the Modi government and said it has betrayed the trust of people of India. A party worker lied down on ground to represent the dying aspirations of Indian public due to the increasing load of hike in the cost of petrol and diesel. Every Congress member and leader was seen with a black cloth tied on their forehead and arms as a mark of protest. Former MP Pawan Kumar Bansal said that in spite of sharp decrease in crude oil prices, the price of petrol and diesel in the country has skyrocketed and the BJP leaders who used to create so much ruckus during the UPA regime, are now strangely silent and nowhere to be seen because they have no explanation for the rising fuel prices.

Shoolini University gets QS certification

Solan: Himachal Pradesh based Shoolini University has got international certification for excellence in Academic digitalisation. The certification by one of the world’s top two independent ranking agencies, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), follows the shortlisting by the other top agency, the Times Higher Education (THE) among the top award nominations in the category of “Outstanding Student Support” for the Asia Awards 2020. These awards, which are yet to be announced, are considered to be ‘Oscars of Higher Education”.  The QS certification announced on Sunday, makes Shoolini University the first to be given this certification to any private university in Himachal Pradesh. Vice Chancellor Prof P K Khosla said the University has already developed more than 500 courses in terms of videos and lecture material as well as a cutting edge online teaching platform that combines  online lectures, Artificial Intelligence (AI) analytics, testing and student interactions.

Dr Jyoti takes over as Punjab child rights panel member

Chandigarh: Dr Deepak Jyoti on Monday assumed charge as non-official member of Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Expressing gratitude towards the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Patiala MP Preneet Kaur, Dr Jyoti said that she would continue to fulfill her responsibility to curb social evils like child labor, deprivation of children from education, exploitation of children, trafficking and other anti-social activities against children.

PM FME to generate Rs 35k cr investment: Harsimrat

Chandigarh: Union Food Processing Industries Minister and SAD’s Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday launched the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME) scheme which will generate an investment of Rs 35,000 crore and provide employment to nine lakh skilled and semi-skilled workers besides giving information and training exposure to eight lakh units across the country. She said that the scheme will cover two lakh enterprises in five years and an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore has been fixed for the same. It will cover 6,700 units in Punjab.

Women Sarpanches, Panches taking lead in popularization of Mission Fateh

Mohali: The panches and sarpanches, especially the women, are taking a lead in making the common people aware against the novel coronavirus by exhorting them to strictly follow the safety protocol laid down by the Health Department. As per Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan’s directions, a consistent campaign is being waged in the district to ensure that the message of Mission Fateh reaches every household.

PU develops ultraviolet Sanitisation chamber

Chandigarh: To fight against COVID-19, the Department of Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF/CIL), Panjab University has designed and developed an ultraviolet sanitization chamber for disinfection of articles and papers. “The set up uses UV-C germicidal radiation and provides full safety features to avoid radiation exposure to persons using this chamber. These safety features are incorporated as the frequency of UV-C is harmful to skin and eyes,” said Professor G R Chaudhary, Director SAIF/CIL while presenting two such chambers to the office of Vice Chancellor on Monday. This chamber is coated with special ultraviolet reflection coating and optimized in such a way that   maximum power of radiation is used due to multiple reflections, he said.

Chandigarh: The first woman Chief Secretary of Punjab, Vini Mahajan called on the Governor Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, V. P. Singh Badnore on Monday at Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh.
