A contractual woman employee of Athagarh NAC office alleged in writing to Executive Officer Ashalata Rachamala that a senior male employee, Pravat Kumar Barik, of the office sexually assaulted her by calling to the office room in the name of discharging Covid-19 duty even as it was a Sunday.
As the EO has joined here recently, she formed a committee to know the truth of the allegation. But the victim being annoyed with the proceedings, lodged an FIR with the Athagarh police. Meanwhile, accused Pravat has been absconding but the police have started an investigation into the case.
Over the matter, the International Human Rights Council's (IHRC) Odisha head Sasmita Das with members Narayan Biswal, Dipak Samantray and Pravu Prasad Mohanty met the victim at her residence and demanded the SDPO, Athagarh in writing to arrest the accused.
They also met Executive Officer Rachamala in her office to know the departmental proceedings taken yet. Rachamala said the IHRC team that the leave application of accused Pravat had been denied and the matters had been intimated to the DM and the Sub-Collector.
