Keeping in view the vulnerability of doctors to the coronavirus as they are on the frontlines in containing the disease, the Orissa High Court on Monday directed the State Government to provide them personal protective equipments.
The court also asked for appointment of an adequate number of doctors to tackle the crisis.
Taking suo moto cognisance of the situation, Acting Chief Justice Sanju Panda and Justice Biswanath Rath ordered the Health Secretary and the Directorate of Medical Education & Training to appoint enough doctors in both Government and private hospitals and provide them personal protective equipments.
The court further directed the Government to ensure that leaves are granted to doctors only in case of emergency. Further, it directed the police department not to intercept COVID-19 patients and their relatives while they are commuting.
