Congress leaders came down heavily on the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for the inordinate delay in establishing the AIIMS Satellite centre here.
The project was approved during the Congress-led UPA Government 2013-14, they claimed while campaigning for party candidate for the Baleswar Sadar by-poll.
Addressing mediapersons, MLA Taraprasdad Bahinipati alleged that the dream project is lying idle due to apathetic attitude of the Modi Government on account of which people of north Odisha are not getting proper healthcare. They are going 250 km to avail the services of AIIMS at Bhubaneswar.
Party spokesperson Sudarshan Das said the proposed 350-bed super speciality hospital was approved to be established at an expenditure of Rs 450 crore. Besides, a world class nursing school and a public health were approved, he said.
Although foundation-stone was laid by the then Union Health Minister JP Nadda in 2018, yet only a boundary has been built around the 25-acre plot at cost Rs 1.60 crore.
Bahinipati alleged that the BJP-led Union Government had deceived the people of north Odisha, particularly Baleswar, adopting delaying and denying tactics.
They demanded that the project established soon.
