Congress hits out at govt over pending cane due

Tuesday, 31 March 2020 | PNS | Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Congress on Monday attacked the state government over its “alleged propaganda of transferring funds to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act workers in the wake of lockdown and questioned Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the delay in clearing of the dues to cane growers.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party believes more in propaganda than doing work and a glaring example of it is Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s show of Monday in which he publicised the help given to over 27 lakh MGNREGA workers by transferring their dues directly into their accounts,” said Congress national spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh. Attacking the chief minister, Singh claimed that the government had extended no extra benefit to the MGNREGA workers but just gave them some relief by clearing their dues pending for last several months.

“The chief minister himself mentioned that he was clearing the dues of the MGNREGA workers,” he pointed.

However, the former Congress MLA also thanked the chief minister for clearing the dues of poor workers when they were badly in need of money. “I am thankful to Adityanathji that he at least cleared the dues of MNREGA workers but I want to ask him when he will show the same sympathy towards the cane growers or farmers who too have pending dues?” he asked.

Singh claimed that the cane growers in UP were yet to receive their Rs 9,000 crore cane dues despite the government’s claim that all the dues had been cleared.

Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced to give financial relief to 54 lakh farmers under PM Samman Nidhi scheme but the farmers were still to receive the money in their accounts.
