Claiming that the steep hike in LPG cylinder price would be a burden to housewives, state president of Congress’s Women’s Cell, Phoolodevi Netam flayed the decision of the Union government.
In a statement, the Congress leader, demanding of the Union government to roll back its decision, charged that the Narendra Modi government at the Center, which came to power by making false promises, was now indulging in atrocity against poor.
Instead of taking steps to control the price hike, the Union government is regularly increasing the prices of essential commodities like LPG cylinder, she alleged.
Notable, LPG cylinder price was hiked by Rs 144.5 per cylinder due to spurt in benchmark global rates of the fuel. Union government claimed that to insulate domestic users, it had almost doubled the subsidy it provides on the fuel to keep per cylinder outgo almost unchanged. LPG price was increased to Rs 858.50 per 14.2 kg cylinder from Rs 714 previously, according to a price notification of the state-owned oil firms.
