CM Soren content with SC accepting coal auctioning case

Wednesday, 15 July 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed his sincere gratitude to the Supreme Court for agreeing to hear the petition of the State Government against the auction of Coal blocks. The Chief Minister said that the State government is committed to an overall development safeguarding environment, forests and the forest dwelling communities.

The Government of Jharkhand had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the auctioning of Coal blocks. The Supreme Court has given consent for hearing. The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to file reply on Jharkhand’s plea against coal block auctioning for commercial mining within four weeks.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and State Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon has said that the State is expected to get justice soon against the Central government's decision of commercial mining in the coal sector. “Today's notice sent by the Supreme Court to the Central government has given hope and confidence to the people of Jharkhand. We express gratitude to the Supreme Court," he said.

Oraon said that the Central government decided to start the auction process for commercial mining in a hurry to benefit its close capitalist friends. He said that when the demand for coal across the world has come down during the global pandemic Corona crisis, the international airlines are suspended, at that time it was decided to benefit its close people in the name of global tender which is quite unfortunate.

The Minister further said that before starting the auction process of commercial mining, neither there was any consultation with the State government nor the interests of the State were taken care of. At the same time, the Central government has also taken a unilateral decision to attack the federal structure of the State. The State government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against this decision and justice is expected soon.

State Congress Committee spokespersons Alok Kumar Dubey, Lal Kishore Nath Shahdev and Rajesh Gupta Chhotu have said that giving notice to the Central Government by the Supreme Court regarding allocation of coal is an important step as the Prime Minister is privatizing all government institutions and at a time when selling of 28 companies is going on the case is being taken up by the Supreme Court, is a positive and auspicious sign for the entire country including Jharkhand.
