Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday announced the constitution of the Bisahu Das Mahant Best Weaver Award scheme on the occasion of his 42nd death anniversary.
The state government will give away the award to the best weaver. Earlier, Baghel paid tributes to the freedom fighter and Congress leader Bisahu Das Mahant by garlanding his portrait.
Commemorating his contribution, the Chief Minister said that Mahant's entire life was dedicated to public service. He was not only a freedom fighter but a successful politician too. He was MLA and Minister in undivided Madhya Pradesh.
He did commendable works for betterment of agriculture, irrigation and road network facilities, Baghel said.
Bisahu Das Mahant (April 1, 1924- July 23, 1978) was first elected from Nawagarh in 1952 and won the state assembly election for the next five terms. He is the father of the present Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Dr Charan Das Mahant.
