Taking cognizance of issues raised by a 16-year-old girl in Sambhal before she committed suicide, the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (UPSCPCR) has now requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the matter in his ‘Mann Ki Baat’. The 18-page suicide letter of the victim was addressed to the prime minister.
The 16-year-old student, who had allegedly killed herself on the eve of Independence Day, raised concerns over various issues such as corruption, deforestation, rising pollution among others, and stated that these pressing matters have compelled her to commit suicide. The state child rights committee has now sent a letter to the Prime Minister, requesting him to discuss the issues mentioned by the Class 10 student, in his radio show.
Dr Vishesh Gupta, president of the UPSCPCR said: “We have taken cognizance of the issues mentioned by the student. She raised some valid issues and requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take note of it. The letter has been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s office.”
It may be mentioned that the girl allegedly ended her life as she was tense over the rise in social evils like pollution and corruption. The teenager shot herself in the head after penning down a suicide note addressed to PM. The teen used to study at a private school in Babrala. She left behind a suicide note in which she also expressed her desire to meet PM Modi. The girl claimed that she had been disturbed due to rising social evils.
In the suicide note, the girl mentioned that she wanted to discuss the aforementioned issues with PM Modi. The girl also urged PM Modi to curb rising population and ban crackers during Diwali. She added that a ban should also be imposed on chemical-based colours used on Holi. The girl raised concerns over the treatment meted out to elderly people in the country and wrote, “I don’t want to live anymore in a place where children send their parents to old age homes.”
Devendra Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Gunnaur said, “The girl had committed suicide on the night on August 14 by shooting herself. The revolver was recovered by police and her body was sent for post-mortem examination.”
