On the occasion of 67th International Everest Day, first female mountaineer from Madhya Pradesh who climbed the Mount Everest, Bhawna Dehariya took a live session on Friday. She marked the day by throwing light on the significance and awareness of the international Everest day.
Mountaineer Bhawna said the international day is observed every year by the mountaineers on May 29. It is worth noting that Nepalese Tenzing Norgay and New Zealand's Edmund Hillary had climbed the Mt Everest on this day in 1953, as the first humans to achieve the feat.
Nepal decided to observe the day as International Everest Day since 2008, when the legendary climber Hillary passed away. Since then, it has become the 'Everest Day' being celebrated on May 29 every year in memory of the first summit of Mt Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary.
Mountaineer Bhawna shared about her journey from having a dream of climbing the Mt Everest to turning it into a reality. She orated that While living my dream, she believed that nothing is impossible in the world, all that one need is courage, determination and passion towards the goal. After four years of interminable hard work, on 22 May 2019, I saw my dream coming true when I actually realized that I am on the top of the world's highest peak Mount Everest also called "Sagarmatha" in Nepal. I covered 8,848 meters to reach the peak.Discussing about the mountains love, Bhawna stated further I started with my first expedition, the Ghadwal summit of Mount DKD 2nd in 2017, thereafter in August 2018, I reached the summit of Mount Manirang, Himachal (6593 mtrs) and it was the time in May 2019, I reached the summit of Mount Everest (8848 mtrs).
Then I never stopped, in October 2019, I climbed the highest peak of the African continent, Mount Kilimanjaro and unfurled the national tricolor flag on the occasion of Diwali.
Another festival "New Year" was celebrated at Mount Aconcagua, South America In December 2019, reaching the height of 6500 meters. Recently, I climbed Mount Koscicszko, the tallest mountain peak of mainland Australia in March and played colours at the peak, disseminating Indian culture. This was the most heart-touching moment of my lifetime."She also opined her challenges and difficulties faced during the summit. She said that "On this occasion, I would like to announce that soon I would be opening an institute of mountaineering course for the sports enthusiasts as my small tribute dedicated to this special day."
At the end of session, Bhawna gave message to the mountaineers that "One should put it's complete endeavours in whatever they do while for those who wants to do mountaineering must keep all safety measures and be well prepared before the expedition. Many of the virtual participants asked questions related to mountaineering to which she replied with satisfying answers.
